But will he build her a cake?

Last night the doorbell rang around 7:30 p.m.  It was the boy across the street asking for The Princess.
Here is the conversation I hear:

~ Hey Billy (not his real name) wants to know if you'll go to the dance with him".

~Why didn't he come ask me?

~Cuz he's grounded.

~Well, I don't think I'm going to pair up with any one person.  Are you going to ask someone?

~(In his best studly voice) Well, I'll probably get asked before I ask anyone.  So what should I tell him?

~Well, Uhhm, I don't know.  I'll think about it.

Door shuts.

Are we really here already?  She's 12.

For one, I love that he had a friend come ask for him.  For another, I love that the Princess said she didn't want to pair up with anyone.  Although this is from the same girl who when asked by me "Do you have a crush on anyone", replied "No, I'm keeping my options open".

Her poor Dad is never going to get a good night rest again.

I wonder if my kid is the one "Billy" was talking about. He came in mortified that Billy said that (and not on his behalf like he claimed), especially since he knows that sort of thing is not even an option until he's 16. Now he's worried Princess is too embarrassed to talk to him anymore. Oh, the angst. No amount of money would make me want to be 12 again.
