I enjoyed the Downtown Provo Farmers Market again last Saturday. My very favorite part of the Farmers Market is running into Raquel. (Gritty Pretty for you blogger types) Raquel makes everything amazing. I would like to take credit for everything that she has done for downtown - after all I did hire her to run the public arts program for the Alliance, but I really can't take the credit.
Raquel is an amazing mix of creative genius and business savvy - two things that in my expercience don't always go together. She is responsible for growing the market (pun intended) into the fabulous place it is today, as well as being responsible for all of the amazing art you see downtown: the Storefront Galleries, the amazing mural on Freedom Blvd, the sculptures along Center...I could go on forever.
When I see her at the market on Saturdays I can be assured of two things; one a big hug, and two, an update on her amazing life. I also get to see her cool husband Ollie, (it's Oliver to the rest of us, but I can't help but think of him as Ollie since that is all I have ever heard her call him), and her incredibly beautiful mom.
Among the other things that I love about the market are:
~My good friend Lori and her amazing produce. I see Lori at least once or twice a week, and she never fails to pay me a compliment. Lori is good for the soul.
~The local culture on display. Because as Azucar says, "There is no spell check at the Farmers Market".
~Running into friends, new and old. This week I ran into the lovely Buchert's. They are Geo's in laws and are two of the most warm, friendly people you will ever meet. I didn't get a picture of them, dang it.
If you live in Provo, or Utah County for that matter, take a Saturday morning and visit the market. It's located in Pioneer Park 500 West 100 South. It runs every Sat. until Oct 25. Tell em Sue sent you.

I went to the farmer's market for the first time last Saturday and loved it. My kids didn't allow me to look around as much as I would have liked, but I'll definitely be back.
